So many of you will see "special offers" stating you can get qualified in massage therapy or eyelash extensions etc with a £25 online course.
Please - if you are one of these people who are tempted to throw away your money on an online course, keep reading.
A lot (not saying all) of online courses aren't properly accredited or recognised within the professional beauty industry. You may find that after you have attended your course, you will struggle to get insurance because a lot of the major insurance companies may not recognise your qualification and will not be willing to cover you for that treatment. This is because online courses are not always seen as in depth enough.
Online courses are mostly done by fobbing you off with a course manual and a couple of online videos to show you what to do. No follow up. No case studies. No quality checks. No responsibility from them to ensure you are confident in your chosen treatment. They have your money and will send you a qualification without a second thought.
This is fine if you have no professional standards, if you are happy to half know what you are doing. But, if you want to be confident in your treatment, your application, your theory behind your treatment, your ability to troubleshoot any problems you may come across in the future, your reputation and credibility - please attend an in-person course.
At an in-person course you will;
work on a live person
have your tutor demonstrate the treatment in front of you
your tutor will observe you carrying out the treatment
you have a tutor to ask questions to there and then, and get the answers you need
you will have all of the products needed on hand to work with on the day
your tutor will assess your work and determine if they feel you are competent enough to work on clients
your tutor will issue your certificate when they feel you are safe and confident in your chosen treatment to receive it
your tutor will be at the end of an email anytime you have a question in the future
your course will be accredited by a recognised governing body who fully assess the depth, knowledge, credibility of the course and academy you are attending
In my opinion we as tutors NEED to observe you in person to ensure you get the best outcome from your course, so you can deliver the treatment to your full capability.
Plus, in-person courses are fun! There are usually a few people on the course which can make the experience so much more enjoyable.
